Nomenclatures &#8211; BOM management"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Definitions &#8211; what is a product BOM?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Bill<strong> Of <\/strong> Materials (BOM) is a list of components or documents that will make up your product.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s a <strong>way of seeing a product<\/strong> in terms of which department of the company is looking at it: design office, purchasing, workshop&#8230; There are therefore different types of BOM. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The main types of BOM are :<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>cadBOM<\/strong>: CAD nomenclature, obtained from SOLIDWORKS or CATIA<\/li>\n<li><strong>eBOM<\/strong>: engineering BOM, engineering or purchasing nomenclature<\/li>\n<li><strong>mBOM<\/strong>: manufacturing BOM, manufacturing bill of materials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is often what is sent to an <strong>ERP<\/strong> system, in Excel or CSV format.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s take a look at how to manage different BOMs in 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS and CATIA.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">1. cadBOM: CAD nomenclature<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The design office creates its assembly in SOLIDWORKS or CATIA, and thus obtains the CAD construction tree. This is commonly known as <strong>cadBOM<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This <strong>cadBOM <\/strong>can be used as a basis for work, but it must also be taken into account.&nbsp;<strong>it only contains what has been &#8220;drawn&#8221;.<\/strong> It will therefore have to be enriched and reorganized to show all the elements needed to build and use this product (such as glues, greases, etc.). <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This will enable us to better manage modifications and upgrades. This nomenclature will become the<strong>eBOM<\/strong> (engineering BOM). <\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">How do I get cadBOM?<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>a. From SOLIDWORKS or CATIA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In general, the drawing is also used to display the BOM, and to extract it as a CSV file. You can therefore insert a table in your drawing: <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"BOM in SW\" class=\"hs-image-align-center\" height=\"371\" style=\"height: auto; width: 688px;\" src=\"https:\/\/8764694.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net\/hubfs\/8764694\/BOM%20in%20SW.gif\" width=\"688\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>b. From Bookmarks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can also extract a <strong>cadBOM <\/strong>without CAD software, using 3DEXPERIENCE. In the Bookmark Editor application, you can extract a CSV file from your cadBOM. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This BOM will need to be reworked to <strong>display quantities<\/strong>, however.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Export from bookmarks\" class=\"hs-image-align-center\" height=\"371\" style=\"height: auto; width: 688px;\" src=\"https:\/\/8764694.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net\/hubfs\/8764694\/Export%20from%20bookmarks.gif\" width=\"688\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">2. eBOM, engineering nomenclature<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The design office is responsible for creating an eBOM that represents the final composition of the product, <strong>including all essential components<\/strong> such as adhesives, greases, software, belts\/chains\/hoses etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This <strong>eBOM <\/strong>is essential, as it constitutes the reference nomenclature for the product as designed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Different stages such as <strong>purchasing<\/strong>, <strong>manufacturing<\/strong>, shipping, <strong>maintenance <\/strong>or renovation require specific groupings and adjustments revealed in eBOM.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hs-callout-type-caution\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-hs-callout-type=\"caution\">\n<p>Often, the design office does this in an <strong>Excel<\/strong> file, filled in manually. You have to remember to update it as soon as you change something, and <strong>errors can creep in, which is very costly<\/strong> for companies. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">How do I get eBOM?<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Prerequisite<\/strong>: you need the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.3dexperience.3ds.com\/welcome\/fr\/compass-world\/3dexperience-works\/governance\/develop-and-release\/product-release-engineer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;<strong>Product Release Engineer<\/strong> (XEN-OC)&#8221;<\/a> role, which is not included by default with SOLIDWORKS or CATIA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>a. Add the application to your 3DEXPERIENCE dashboard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"add xen-1\" class=\"hs-image-align-center\" height=\"371\" style=\"height: auto; width: 688px;\" src=\"https:\/\/8764694.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net\/hubfs\/8764694\/add%20xen-1.gif\" width=\"688\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>b. Add product<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Whether the CAD is complete or not, you can start working on your eBOM.
