Interview – BLACKSTRIX

Interview: Blackstrix

As part of our interview series, today we’re speaking with Florian Poulenard, founder of BLACKSTRIX.

Lucie P-L: “Could you please introduce yourself?”

Florian P: “Poulenard Florian, the founder of the company BLACKSTRIX. In the first phase, we focus on the design and manufacturing of eco-friendly leisure vehicles. In the second phase, we are also involved in design. So, in everything specialized in transportation: vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles, anything related to mobility. My primary background is truly in design.”

L:“What are your design needs?”

F “3D design, for me, is primarily used to simply communicate with my clients about the products I design (i.e., the vehicles I will design). This allows the client to have something other than a 2D visual, such as a sketch or a graphic palette.

Secondly, it allows me to create technical plans for later implementation (as I have a dual role).”

L: “Why 3DEXPERIENCE?”

F “Simply because I was already using the SOLIDWORKS software, which I primarily work with.

First of all, because SOLIDWORKS allows me to do 3D on technical drawings. But also on design bases, as we can work with both surface and solid modeling. In addition to that, the rendering software also allows me to communicate about the projects I'm working on.

The cloud, which is very important for having all my data ultimately on a server 3D EXPERIENCE and not on my hard drives. Even if they are there, they are also in the cloud, which means that if my computer has a problem, everything is saved.

I also took on this role so I could communicate with my clients. So that's also a good thing. In other words, the client will be able to see the item I'm working on, see it in detail, rotate it in 3D, all from a distance. Indeed, I work a bit with companies in the Czech Republic or elsewhere (outside of France), which are a bit far away, so you could say it's practical.”

L: “What are the observed results?”

F: “ It hasn't been long, but I'm already getting good feedback on it, at least regarding having my software online.

As I was saying, it's really convenient to have all my parts and all my projects on the cloud.

Next, I'm currently setting up the ability to share with my clients. So I haven't been able to try that yet, but I think it will be really beneficial. It will avoid having to do renders, then layouts, etc. The client will be able to see it right away.

Yes, that's right, the positive is having all the files backed up and having a secure backup base.”

L: “Could you list three benefits?”

F: “L And follow-up with the team: So I have a follow-up with Kilian. We can ask questions based on the problems we might encounter, and we can really get answers to our questions.

Communication: like what we're doing (around the platform)

Cloud backup: as I was saying earlier, but which I find very important to emphasize.”

L:“What's your feedback on XDInnovation?”

F “Since I was already quite proficient with SOLIDWORKS, we mostly encountered problems transitioning from classic SOLIDWORKS to 3DEXPERIENCE. Regarding cloud saving, how to create folders, etc. That was more the problem-solving aspect.

Afterwards, it's true that everything related to software usage (whether in terms of volume, surface area, rendering, or technical plans) I no longer had those foundations, so we focused more on the basics of using the platform.

”Now we're going to rework the exchange that I'll be able to have with my clients and subcontractors through sharing on the platform."

L: “Anything else to add?”

F: “O One could also say that 3DEXPERIENCE is mainly about sharing. We'll be able to share 3D files much more easily. 3D files are still quite large, and not everyone will have SOLIDWORKS. Some people will be working on other 3D software, so they will at least be able to get previews and be able to modify parts to some extent.

»That's pretty important, especially if you're working with colleagues."
