Frequently Asked Questions About SOLIDWORKS Electrical

Do you need SOLIDWORKS to use Electrical?
Not for the schematic: Electrical Schematic can be used on its own, even in a company without mechanical CAD software. However, 3D harness routing relies on the model, so Electrical 3D & Schematic requires a SOLIDWORKS Design license.
Can our libraries and our in-house symbols be carried over?+
Yes. Symbol libraries, manufacturer components, and drawing templates are carried over, and Ohmycad facilitates the migration from your current tools (AutoCAD Electrical, See Electrical, or custom DWG blocks).
What is the difference between the Desktop version and the 3DEXPERIENCE version?+
The content of the schematic is the same. The 3DEXPERIENCE version adds the ability for multiple users to work on the same project and includes a license that follows the user rather than the workstation.
Are the cable lengths reliable?+
They come from the routing in the 3D model, not from an estimate: actual paths, radii of curvature, and transitions are all included. That’s what saves time during the wiring process.
Can we generate cabinet diagrams and terminal block diagrams?+
Yes: Cabinet layouts, terminal blocks, wire lists, and bills of materials are generated from the project and are updated along with it.
How much does SOLIDWORKS Electrical cost?+
All three versions are available on a subscription basis, per user. Ohmycad provides a quote based on the number of electricians, the selected version, and the SOLIDWORKS licenses already in place.
